SUMMARY:Artist of the Month: Abigail Waddle
DESCRIPTION:Artist of the Month: Abigail Waddle\nAbigail Waddle is a South Texas–based artist whose work draws deep inspiration from the wetlands\, wildlife\, and folklore. Working primarily in oil paint and charcoal\, Waddle blends Symbolist influences with themes of nature\, myth\, and the unconscious. Each piece explores the delicate threshold where instinct meets archetype—where something wild and timeless emerges through the quiet rhythms of the natural world. \nHer featured work\, Paramythi\, will be on display at The Williamson Museum throughout the month as part of our Artist of the Month program.

SUMMARY:January Salon: Debbie Shepherd on What’s Your Town’s Story?
DESCRIPTION:January Salon: Debbie Shepherd on What’s Your Town’s Story?\nJoin educator Debbie Shepherd\, whose 40-year career in Texas schools has shaped generations of learners\, as she explores the profound impact of uncovering and uplifting local history. A graduate of Trinity University with an MEd from Texas State University\, Debbie has served as a teacher\, literacy coach\, reading interventionist\, and dyslexia specialist. She co-founded Meridian World School\, an IB charter school\, and Delegates Beyond Borders\, an initiative supporting Model UN programs across Texas and abroad. She now prepares future educators at Southwestern University\, where she continues her lifelong mission of empowering students to find their voices through writing\, poetry\, and meaningful engagement with literature. \nIn this presentation\, Debbie draws on James Loewen’s reminder that “all history is local” to examine how national movements—particularly school desegregation—were lived out in our own communities. Williamson County’s journey from segregated to integrated schools occurred within living memory\, guided by courageous individuals who were the first students of color to step into previously all-white classrooms. Their stories\, often untold\, offer powerful lessons about resilience\, community values\, and the ongoing work of understanding our past.

SUMMARY:Artist of the Month: Bonnie Salser
DESCRIPTION:Artist of the Month: Bonnie Salser\n \nBonnie Salser is a compelling visual artist whose bold abstract works reflect a life shaped by travel\, personal resilience\, and a deep connection to the natural world. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps\, Bonnie draws on her experiences and observations—from distant landscapes to everyday textures—to create vibrant\, multi-dimensional pieces filled with color\, movement\, and emotion. Taking inspiration from concrete elements such as plants and bodies of water\, she abstracts these forms into layered compositions\, often using repurposed materials and everyday objects to apply paint. \nFor Bonnie\, creating art has become a vital outlet for managing the effects of PTSD and finding balance after military service. Taking intentional breaks from her work allows her to return with fresh perspective and renewed creativity\, helping her continue to grow and refine her style. She embraces experimentation and enjoys seeing how ideas unexpectedly develop into visual stories. Drawn to the limitless possibilities of painting\, Bonnie values the freedom it offers in contrast to the structure of military life\, allowing her to express emotion\, intuition\, and the spirit of each moment. Bonnie Salser’s artwork will be on display from February 1 through February 28.
