DESCRIPTION:September Salon: Jordan Patterson on From Georgetown to Prague and Back Again: In Search of a Bohemian Princess\n \nTwenty-two years ago\, while working in Georgetown\, Washington\, D.C.\, Jordan Patterson bought a handful of antique Bohemian chandelier crystals and began transforming them into jewelry. Those crystals inspired a children’s story about a Czech orphan who becomes a Bohemian princess. She never imagined that story would lead her to move to Prague to open an orphanage\, where an unexpected meeting with a Czech prince opened the door to a hidden world of European royalty and aristocracy. \nBack in America\, she didn’t go looking for these stories—they seemed to find her everywhere she went. Patterson began meeting princes\, princesses\, counts\, and baronesses whose families had been forever changed by war\, Nazi occupation\, and Communist rule before rebuilding their lives in the United States. Twenty-two years after buying those Bohemian crystals\, she found herself in another Georgetown—Georgetown\, Texas—where she discovered she had landed in the heart of Czech Texas. Those extraordinary encounters ultimately inspired her newly released children’s book\, A True Bohemian Princess. \nBlending memoir\, history\, and remarkable true stories\, Patterson will trace the surprising journey from old-world Bohemia to Central Texas—from European families displaced by war and revolution to the Czech and Moravian immigrants who settled communities such as Taylor\, Granger\, and Corn Hill in the late nineteenth century. Along the way\, she explores what survives when families leave one world behind and build another—and how Czech heritage continues to shape Central Texas generations later. \nJoining Patterson for a special conversation will be Georgetown resident Lucy Oxberry\, whose extraordinary family history bridges European nobility\, diplomacy\, art\, and political exile. Oxberry came to the United States at age five after her family fled Communist Czechoslovakia when her father was blacklisted. Through her mother\, she descends from Polish nobility. Her grandfather\, renowned Czechoslovak diplomat Vladimír Radimský\, served his country abroad\, including as envoy to Sweden\, while her great-uncle\, Václav Radimský\, became one of the most celebrated Czech Impressionist painters of his generation and lived and painted in France alongside the Impressionists. \nTogether\, Patterson and Oxberry will bring this sweeping history down to the human scale—through stories of aristocracy and exile\, immigration and reinvention\, and the unexpected ways the old world of Bohemia still echoes in Georgetown and across Central Texas.

SUMMARY:Ghosts of the Georgetown Square Ghost Tours 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we tell the stories of ghosts who have haunted local places for more than a hundred years. There are 3 tours each night to intrigue and delight your paranormal senses. \nThe costumed docent-led hour tour leaves the museum at 7:30pm. \nGhost Hunting tours with heightened stories\, imagery\, and interactive elements leave at 8:00 & 9:00 pm for about an hour and a half experience. \nTickets are $20 per person; $15 for museum members\, students\, and veterans. Buy your ticket early\, as space is limited. \nYou may also purchase a discounted bundle ticket for our November 21st Cemetery Tour at IOOF from 3pm-5pm for  an additional $5. \nTours are rain or shine. Tours are subject to cancellation due to severe weather. \nPlease meet at the museum 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. \n\nClick here to purchase tickets

DESCRIPTION:November Salon: Rich Kostecke on\nAn Introduction to Hill Country Conservancy and the Wonders of Pecan Springs Karst Preserve\n\n																														 \nDiscover a unique natural landscape right here in Williamson County during the next Salon at Wildfire. Rich\, Director of Science and Stewardship for Hill Country Conservancy\, will introduce guests to the organization and its conservation work throughout Central Texas. The presentation will then turn its focus to Pecan Springs Karst Preserve in northern Williamson County\, exploring the preserve’s wildlife\, habitats\, natural features\, and many conservation values. \nRich has spent decades working in wildlife conservation\, ecology\, management\, research\, land protection\, conservation planning\, and partnerships. Much of his work has focused on birds and their habitats in Texas\, including species such as the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo.  \nRich holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Kansas\, an M.S. in Zoology from North Dakota State University\, and a Ph.D. in Wildlife Science from Texas Tech University. His graduate research focused on applying science to real-world wildlife and natural resource management decisions. Today\, he serves as Director of Science and Stewardship for Hill Country Conservancy. \nA Missouri native who has called Texas home for nearly 25 years\, Rich is also an avid birder\, naturalist\, nature and wildlife photographer\, and native plant gardener. He enjoys exploring and experiencing nature everywhere from his own backyard to destinations across Texas and beyond. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and available on a first-come\, first-seated basis.
