SUMMARY:Artist of the Month: David Cook Photography
DESCRIPTION:Artist of the Month: David Cook Photography\n \nA Photonaturalist’s Sense of Wonder \nMy work is inspired by my training as a Texas Master Naturalist\, a passion for the natural world\, and by Rachel Carson’s book The Sense of Wonder. A sense of wonder\, she wrote: “…so indestructible that it would last throughout life\, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantments of later years\, the sterile preoccupation with things that are artificial\, the alienation from the sources of our strength” \nMy photography explores my own sense of wonder and hopefully  can inspire others to find and nurture their sense of wonder as well. \nI describe myself as a photonaturalist rather than a nature photographer because I do more than take photos of nature. I study the natural world and find art in the intersection between the light and the living world. \nI hope these images spark your sense of wonder with nature as well.

SUMMARY:Artist Reception: David Cook
DESCRIPTION:Artist Reception: David Cook\nArtist Reception: A Photonaturalist’s Sense of WonderFeaturing David CookMay 8 | 6:00–8:00 PM \nJoin us for an evening celebrating the work of David Cook\, a Texas Master Naturalist whose photography is rooted in a deep passion for the natural world and inspired by The Sense of Wonder by Rachel Carson. \nDescribing himself as a photonaturalist\, Cook goes beyond traditional nature photography—studying the environment and capturing the artistic intersection of light and the living world. His work reflects a personal exploration of wonder and invites viewers to reconnect with nature in meaningful ways. \nCarson described a sense of wonder as something enduring—an antidote to boredom\, artificiality\, and disconnection. This exhibition brings that idea to life through images that encourage curiosity\, reflection\, and appreciation for the natural world. \nWe invite you to experience these works\, meet the artist\, and rediscover your own sense of wonder.

SUMMARY:May Salon: Chris Woolsy (aka ChrisRestores) on Tricked Into Learning: An Engaging Effort
DESCRIPTION:May Salon: Chris Woolsy (aka ChrisRestores) on Tricked Into Learning: An Engaging Effort\n \nSalon at Wildfire welcomes Chris Woolsey\, known online as ChrisRestores\, for a presentation titled Tricked Into Learning: An Engaging Effort. \nChris combines his passion for Texas history\, travel\, and storytelling through the restoration of Texas historical markers across the state. What began as a personal interest quickly evolved into a larger mission to preserve and share the stories behind these overlooked pieces of public history. \nDuring this engaging presentation\, Chris will discuss his journey from corporate life to content creation\, the realities of documenting history online\, and the challenges and rewards of building a community around preservation and volunteerism. The evening will also include audience questions covering everything from restoration projects and Texas history to social media and content creation.

SUMMARY:June Salon: John-Carlos Estrada on Searching for Barbette
DESCRIPTION:June Salon: John-Carlos Estrada on Searching for Barbette\n \nSalon at Wildfire welcomes award-winning journalist and filmmaker John-Carlos Estrada for Searching for Barbette. \nEstrada\, a morning news anchor at CBS Austin where he also produces the station’s acclaimed “Turning Back\nTime” series\, will share the story behind his years-long investigation into the life and legacy of Barbette\, the internationally renowned trapeze artist and female impersonator born in Round Rock\, Texas. \nThis journey began with a visit to a Williamson Museum to view the Barbette exhibit eventually grew into an award-winning CBS Austin profile\, the documentary Barbette + Fontaine\, and a forthcoming biography with University of Texas Press. During the presentation\, Estrada will discuss archival discoveries made across New York and Paris\, the process of reconstructing Barbette’s story more than 100 years later\, and the continuing impact of Barbette’s legacy through the Barbette’s Legacy Foundation scholarship program. \nThe evening will also include a screening of Barbette + Fontaine and audience discussion.

SUMMARY:Artist of the Month: Camille Harmon
DESCRIPTION:Artist of the Month: Camille Harmon\n \nCamille Harmon \nI am an artist\, designer\, teacher and illustrator living and working in Georgetown since 2001. \nMy collage practice begins with a single found image — an orphaned fragment of someone else’s world. I approach each piece as an act of imagining: what stories hide inside this image\, what alternate realities it might open\, what emotions it quietly carries. By cutting\, layering\, and recombining\, I let the image lead me toward new narratives that feel both familiar and sometimes uncanny. My work lives in the space between what is seen and what is possible\, inviting viewers to imagine alongside me. \nLargely self-taught\, I have been creating collage since the late 1980’s\, exploring different styles of collage over the years.  It is an ever-evolving medium that never fails to challenge me. \nSouthwest Texas State University (Texas State) – art education \nAustin Community College – Graphic Design
