Known for her bright, vibrant paintings of flowers, landscapes, and animals, Georgetown artist Lynn Kessel is stepping beyond the familiar in Fresh Trajectories: Emerging Directions in Kessel’s Artwork. This exhibition captures a moment of change in Kessel’s artistic journey as she explores oil painting and creating abstracts. Moving into unfamiliar territory means experimenting with new techniques, confronting creative challenges, fear, and learning to quiet the critical voice that often comes with trying something new. The works featured in Fresh Trajectories include some of Kessel’s first paintings from this new chapter.

Lynn Kessel is a self-taught artist whose work is driven by curiosity, intuition, and a deep appreciation for the natural world and often inspired by her travels.  She is based in Georgetown Texas, works primarily in acrylic, and explores bright, vibrant color and tactile textures to create images that sit between representation and abstraction. Her subjects often come from landscapes, flora, animals, and people – forms that hold an energy of their own. Some pieces lean toward realism, grounding the viewer in familiar shapes, while others dissolve into abstraction, guided by emotion, movement, and color relationships rather than strict depiction. Texture plays a central role in her process.  By layering paint, building surfaces, and experimenting with mark making, she aims to create work that feels alive – inviting viewers to experience not only what they see, but what they sense. Her art is an ongoing exploration of color, form, and expressive possibilities through experimentation, determination, and relentless play, and shaped by a self-directed learning journey and a desire to create work that resonates on both visual and emotional levels.
